Aliyah is a borrowed word from the Hebrew language that can be well applied to an enlightened international community. In the context of raising oneself to a higher level, application of this term can find a receptive audience. People on the move to better their lives is one bi-product of gaining a higher perception of one’s standing in life. In particular, when one is conscious about performing acts that not only raises the performer’s level of awareness and position in life, but also has an effect on one’s environment, than an act of Aliyah can indeed be a meritorious deed.
Accordingly, International Aliyah can also apply to raising our world to a better place. Such a lofty goal is also compatible with the religious concept of bringing in an enlightened new world, a redemption for all mankind. It is within this Utopian framework that the concept of Jewish people finding themselves returned to their Jewish Homeland, finds full meaning.
No matter where one’s starting point begins, a simple act of making Aliyah can not only change one’s own life for the better, but indeed lead to raising our whole world into a better place too!
